In the world of Mustafa Hulusi there are no easy answers to tough questions.

Question: What would happen if our film icons, pop-stars and media celebrities, tired of endlessly turning their lives into the images we consume and decided one day to give up? What if they decided to stop what they were doing, leave the sets of feature films empty, let music videos grow quiet, fail to turn up to collect their latest award? Who would replace them? And would we care?

Mustafa Hulusi takes on these tough questions, and offers hard answers.

In his recent film works, Mustafa Hulusi inserts himself into the clichéd imagery and narratives of popular culture, he plagiarises the characters and attitudes with which we are asked to identify. With relentless determination, he unjustifiably installs himself in those roles normally reserved for those with something important to say. Mustafa Hulusi over-runs the commanding heights of stardom with filmic celebrations of non-entity and non-event. In a culture where our idols have nothing to offer, Mustafa Hulusi takes the ground they have abandoned, but refuses to put anything in its place. Neither hero nor anti-hero, the non-hero known as Mustafa Hulusi, still mesmerised by the roles paraded before him on the screen, adopts a ventriloquist’s approach to acting. His four 3 minute video loops become a video karaoke played with a straight face.

Mustafa Hulusi, actor without a script, playing a character without a mission, in a story going nowhere. Join him, at a screen near you.
