‘The wild things cried, “Oh please don't go - we'll eat you up - we love you so.''’
(from Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak)

Expanding on the idea of appetite as both bodily instinct and excessive desire, the exhibition takes up the Romantic theme that emotions are often violent and out of control. The work investigates these drives, positioning the source of appetite in unconscious longings and needs. The idea that appetites are incorporative connects to the sometimes absurd impulse for projection and anthropomorphism, behind which lies a desire to forget ourselves and our bodily limits and processes. The exhibition shows how our appetites and needs are the material of fantasies and projections, while also indicating a precious border between human sensuality and the wild things of our imagination
